Upcoming puzzle game The Witness has been rated by the ESRB for the Xbox One, but there are no plans to actually release it on the console, according to a report from Polygon.
As noticed on the ESRB website, The Witness is clearly seen to have an “E” rating, and is mentioned to be on Windows PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. While we have known about the PS4 and PC release date for a while now, news of an Xbox One release is certainly different.
When reached out to for comment by Polygon, developer Thekla stated it currently has no plans for an Xbox One release.
"We only put XB1 on there because it doesn't cost anything, and if we were to want to do an XB1 version later, we don't have to go through ratings again," said Jonathan Blow, the creator of The Witness. "But it is totally provisional, we have no plans for an XB1 version right now."
The Witness will release on PS4 and PC on Jan. 26. The Thekla website mentions that The Witness will be coming to other consoles “a bit later”, so the smart bet is on The Witness eventually coming to Xbox One. It is a timed exclusive to PS4 and, based on other timed exclusivity deals, don’t expect to see it for at least six months or longer after launch.
