Here's some good news for those planning to attend this year's E3. Xbox announced that it will be attending E3 2020. This comes right after Sony and PlayStation revealed that it will be opting out of the event for a second year in a row.
Phil Spencer, who currently heads the Xbox Division at Microsoft, revealed this in a tweet saying that their team remains hard at work for E3 2020. In that same tweet, Spencer went on to mention that they "look forward to sharing with all who love to play what's ahead for us" and adding that their "artform has consistently been propelled by the cross-section of creativity and technical progress." Spencer ended the statement by saying that "2020 is a milestone year in that journey" for the team.
Early this week, Sony had announced that it was not going to attend E3 2020. This is the second year that Sony made the decision to skip the event. According to Sony, the event doesn't seem to be right for what the company is planning this year. You can read more about that here.
The Electronic Entertainment Expo, or E3, has long been considered the premier trade event when it comes to the video game industry. It had its start in 1995 and was then an industry-only event. By 2017, E3 made the decision to open the event to the public. Recently, E3 said that for this year, it was increasing the number of public passes to 25,000 from 15,000. In addition, it was revealed that for 2020, it was rebranding itself be a "fan, media, and influencer festival," as reported by GameDaily.
While it's indeed sad to learn that Sony won't be attending, Nintendo is confirmed to be at the event as well, though there's no word yet as to what they're going to be showing.
