Microsoft is in a unique position where it is a game distributor, a console company, and an operator of a live gaming service.
The head of Xbox, Phil Spencer, has made several interesting comments. One of which is that he thinks it's no longer necessary to convince people using rival consoles to switch to Xbox. This is due to the fact that the company is now focusing on making Xbox games available on platforms such as the PlayStation and Nintendo Switch.
Phil Spencer: Xbox No Longer Requires Owning the Console
According to the latest interview by XboxEra with the Xbox CEO, the company will no longer try to convince owners of rival consoles to switch to Xbox. This comes as a surprise as companies have been known for touting the exclusive experiences available in their respective platforms, especially with game exclusivity deals with certain developers or publishers.
That trend has changed, it seems, particularly as Microsoft rose as one of the most prominent game distributors in the world, owning massive franchises from Bethesda and Activision Blizzard.
The only challenge now left for Spencer is to find more fans of the franchises they own despite being on other platforms, and to keep them engaged with the games they are making available to the market.
Xbox Game Ports to PS5, Nintendo Switch Is Booming
Over the past year, Xbox has made sure to work on massive game ports that would share Xbox-exclusive experiences with PlayStation and the Switch, with the company still planning for more to bridge over to rivals.
In fact, it has been rumored that the "Halo" franchise, a long-time Xbox exclusive, will be making its way to the PlayStation.
Franchises That Are No Longer Xbox-Exclusive
The significant moves made by Microsoft over the past years have helped greatly as it has become one of the most prominent gaming companies in the world due to its ownership of big franchises across various platforms.
Now, the company is staying true to its promise that certain titles will no longer be exclusive to the Xbox only, including their renowned space adventure "Starfield," as confirmed by Spencer himself.
Recent games from Microsoft's subsidiary, Bethesda, confirmed that their latest "Indiana Jones and The Great Circle" release will be made available to the PS5. The same can be said f"Call of Duty: Black Ops 6," which was available to the rival console on day one of its release.
The current focus of the company will continue, as the renowned "Forza Horizon 5" from 2021 was also shared to the PlayStation 5 despite being a long-time Xbox exclusive during the entire run of its franchise.
