XDefiant executive producer Mark Rubin pushed back against claims regarding Ubisoft's latest first-person shooter and said that it is "absolutely not dying."

The game supposedly has Ubisoft's full support despite various reports saying otherwise and suggesting that it is at the end of its lifeline. The rumors come as XDefiant launched back in May for consoles and PC.

XDefiant's Current Status

The release came after several delays as well as a well-received beta among players. Ubisoft's free-to-play first-person shooter had a strong launch. It was able to get high player counts, good reviews, and a solid amount of content.

Many players initially enjoyed XDefiant and its fast-paced military arena shooter vibes. However, there have been recent claims saying that the game was not making enough money and was bleeding out players, according to Kotaku.

This is what apparently led to Ubisoft's executives losing confidence in the game and what it could bring to the studio. But Rubin's blog post posted on Sept. 18, 2024, aimed to push back against these claims.

In the post, Rubin talked about improvements to net code as well as hit registration for XDefiant. He also addressed the "status" of the game and the rumors swirling around talking of its imminent demise.

The XDefiant executive producer added that the developers just want to do better for the game. He said that this can be done by addressing the concerns of the community, which has always been their plan, said IGN.

He added that Ubisoft is very supportive of the team and has allocated more resources to allow them to address the issues. His comments come as the market for a game like XDefiant is incredibly brutal in modern times.

Upcoming Season 2

Following the shutdown of Sony's Concord last week, many fans of XDefiant may be worried about its current status. Concern also rose after Ubisoft San Francisco suffered layoffs in August 2024.

The situation comes as XDefiant's Season 2 is coming on Sept. 25, 2024, and could include some major changes for the shooter. The biggest things to note are a new mode, three new maps, and three new weapons.

The upcoming update also includes a brand-new Battle Pass and a highly anticipated new feature.

The latter is Private Matches which many players have been asking for a long time now. It would allow players to create custom games for them and their friends to play in, according to Ubisoft News.
