Sega's upcoming Yakuza 6: The Song of Life was previously scheduled for a March 20 release date. All was right with the world—we expected a Yakuza springtime release. However, Sega regretfully announced that Yakuza 6 is delayed another month to April 17. No more March visits to Kamurocho are in our future, but at least that means the game has a little more time to be polished up before it hits store shelves.
Sega announced the delay with a statement via Twitter :
"Yakuza 6: The Song of Life‘s release is being moved back a month to April 17. This was a tough business decision we didn’t make lightly," the announcement read. But there's a silver lining to this whole delay debacle, and it comes in the form of an official demo of Yakuza 6 , which we'll be able to play exclusively on PlayStation 4 on Feb. 27.
Sega has yet to announce what the demo will contain. You will, however, be able to bring any progress made in your saved game from the demo over to the final release. One thing's for sure—going by the past entries in the Yakuza series, it's going to be a lot of fun.
Yakuza 6: The Song of Life is actually the 7th main entry in the Yakuza series, and it's meant to wrap up series protagonist Kazuma Kiryu's long-running story. Aside from its open world gameplay and various missions to take part in, there's a ton more content to explore in-game. You can head out to nightclubs to perform karaoke, hang out at the batting cages, frequent host clubs, and even play in arcades that feature games like Virtual Fighter 5: Final Showdown, Out Run, Super Hang-On, Space Harrier , and Puyo Puyo .
Currently, you can play most of the current Yakuza releases like Yakuza Kiwami on PlayStation 4, and if you need help getting caught up before next month when Yakuza 6 drops, Sega has put together an entire timeline to help educate you on Kiryu and friends before the game is out.
Editor's Note: A previous version of the headline claimed the delay was until March, not April. The story has been updated to correct this mistake.
