Not many people may be familiar with 8 Ball Pool, but for those who do, they probably know that this is Miniclip’s number one game. The game has reached another milestone in addition to being the world’s biggest online pool game. The game has been recognized by the Guinness World Records as the Most Downloaded Mobile Pool Game.
For those who want the figures, the game has been downloaded 796,721,888 times. That means in just a few years, it could reach 1 billion downloads. Plus, it has managed to reach 260 million hours of playtime each month.
A Background
The recognition also comes at a rather special time for both the game and Miniclip. The company is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year. Founded all the way back in 2001, it has since released more than 60 titles.
The game itself also celebrated its 10th anniversary. 8 Ball Pool actually started as an online Flash game back in 2010 before making the shift to mobile by 2013. At the UK App Store, the game has beaten the likes of Candy Crush Saga and Pokémon GO.
New Event
To celebrate this newest achievement, there will be a High Score event based on players and their very own in-game achievements. The event starts today, August 12, and runs until August 29. The new event brings a themed season pass and rewards and limited themed events. There are also new and exclusive Cues waiting to be unlocked.
There is another mini-event which is from August 14 to August 29. In this one, players need to send as many gifts as they can to each other. The goal is to break the record of sending 2.5 billion gifts. If that record is broken, then another exclusive Cue is unlocked.
In a statement, Miniclip President Rob Small revealed that 8 Ball Pool has actually become a household name. He added that this latest achievement recognizes years of hard work.
Talking about the achievement, Guinness World Records Adjudicator Richard Stenning said that getting such an award is not easy. Stenning went on to say that the achievement 8 Ball Pool received is indeed a fantastic one.
