If you are a huge fan of Kratos and the entire God of War franchise, then you are in for a treat. That is because the God of War live-action series is finally official.
Amazon just announced that Prime Video is getting a live-action series based on the extremely popular PlayStation title God of War. It is expected to be available on Prime Video in more than 240 countries and territories. The only catch, for now, is that a premiere date has yet to be revealed.
The show follows the iconic Kratos, also known as the God of War, who decides to reside in the Norse realm of Midgard to leave and forget his gory past in ancient Greece. The Ghost of Sparta mourns the death of his wife and sets on an adventure with his estranged son Atreus in hopes of fulfilling her wish – to spread her ashes from the highest peak of the realm. As he and his son embark on the adventure, together they face all kinds of monsters and gods, further testing his bond with his son.
The creative team for the God of War series will include Rafe Judkins (The Wheel of Time), who will also serve as the executive producer and showrunner. Both Hawk Ostby and Mark Fergus have boarded as the show’s writers and executive producers. Cory Barlog, on the other hand, will also be an executive producer.
There is no doubt that the upcoming God of War live-action series would become a huge hit for Amazon. The reveal comes as the new God of War iteration, God of War Ragnarok, was released to the public last month. The game easily became a massive hit, selling millions of copies.
PlayStation announced on its official Twitter page in November that God of War Ragnarok, developed by Santa Monica Studio, became the “fastest-selling first-party launch game in the console’s history. It sold about 5.1 million copies, a feat the game completed in just its first week of launch.
The God of War game started off in 2005 and has since received much critical acclaim and financial success. In fact, even the latest game, God of War Ragnarok, became a top contender in various Game of the Year lists.
