The Android 6.0 Marshmallow update hits Verizon Galaxy Note 5 handsets just days after a timeline leaked indicating various Samsung smartphones would receive the latest Google operating system in March. Verizon announced the update on its support page Friday.
The Verizon Galaxy Note 5 is receiving the system build MMB29K, which takes the device from Android 5.1.1 Lollipop to Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow. The update includes a new set of emojis, as well as navigation bar updates for tablets and Google’s routine security update as its main features.
Android 6.0 Marshmallow also includes features such as Now on Tap , which provides contextual details to what users are accessing on their device; Nexus Imprint , the Google fingerprint scanner, which detects a fingerprint in 600 milliseconds; and Flex Storage , which encrypts applications and data, making them a part of the device rather than a microSD card.
The Android 6.0.1 update should hit Verizon handsets wirelessly and automatically. However, users can check for the update manually by accessing Settings > About phone > Software updates > Check for Updates.
With the Verizon Galaxy Note 5 now updating to Android 6.0.1, it may be only matter of time before other carriers being updating the Galaxy Note 5. Handsets including the Galaxy S6, Galaxy S6 Edge and Galaxy S6 Edge+ are expected to receive the Marshmallow update in March as well.
