Respawn Entertainment surprised the Apex Legends fanbase by revealing the Genesis Collection event, which will bring back the original King's Canyon and World's Edge maps. The limited-time event starts on June 29 and will run through July 13. Along with the two maps are limited-time cosmetics that players can purchase, and as well as Revenant getting his heirloom melee weapon. As part of the Genesis Collection event, Respawn Entertainment will also introduce several balance changes, details of which are listed in the official patch notes.
When Apex Legends was released in 2019, the game launched with a single map, King's Canyon. In Season 3, the game received its second map, World's Edge.
Over the years, both of these maps have undergone numerous changes that added new areas and rotations. However, fans who have been playing Apex Legends since the first season will definitely feel the nostalgia for the original maps when they return on June 29.
With the Genesis Collection event, Respawn Entertainment is adding an hourly legacy map rotation featuring trios and duos on the pre-season version of King's Canyon and Season 3 version of World's Edge. Plus, Skull Town will be added as the new arena map.
Similar to previous collection events, the Genesis Collection will also feature a bunch of free and paid cosmetics. Collecting all 24 either via Genesis Event Packs or direct purchase will grant players the heirloom item for Revenant.
Speaking of balancing changes, some of the major highlights include:
- Increased Octane's Launch Pad cooldown from 60 seconds to 90 seconds.
- Reduced Revenant's hitbox, particularly in torso and arms.
- Increased the distance that Revenant can climb buildings. The Legend can actually climb far higher than before.
- Many changes to Arenas including adjustments on the map and prices.
- Respawn also trolled the fanbase by classifying Wattson's ability to now place more Nessies on the map with her epic emote and calling it a major buff.
Apex Legends is free-to-play on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.
