For Apex Legends players and fans, here's some good news to kick off 2020. Apex Legends officially revealed its Global Series, a collection of highly-competitive events that aim to bring together contenders of all skill levels worldwide.
Let's start with an overview of what's going to happen. There are going to be 12 global events throughout the year with a total prize pool of at least $3 million. The first Online Tournament is scheduled to take place on January 25 with the first live Major set to take place from March 13 to 15. In between them is an Online Tournament which serves as qualifying for the first Premier Event and is scheduled on February 29 and March 2.
So how does everything work? The Global Series Championship is the ultimate goal for players. This tournament is going to feature the top teams from the Global Series Major, Global Series Premier Events, and the Global Series Points Leaderboard. There's also the last chance Online Tournaments.
The Global Series Majors are the flagship EA live events. This is where the world's best Apex Legends teams fight for the largest prize pools. Thus, teams that win the Majors can call themselves the best in the world.
There are three routes to be able to take part in the Majors:
- Online Tournaments
- This is the entry point into the Apex Legends Global Series. By performing well in official Online Tournaments on PC, teams and players can earn Apex Legends Global Series Points and qualify for live events.
- Challenger Events
- These live events give local talent an opportunity to shine. They are going to focus on regional competitions throughout the Apex Legends competitive gaming population and award the winners with a reserved spot in the upcoming Major.
- Premier Events
- These are global live events pitting the top online competitors from each global region against one another. Top Premier Event performers earn increased Apex Legends Global Series Points and advanced placement invitations to Majors.
Throughout the year there's going to be a total of four Majors. The first three Majors are going to feature 300 players, or 100 three-player teams, battling it out for a $500,000 prize pool. The fourth Major is going to be the Global Series Championship and only the top 60 Global Series teams are going to be invited to compete for a prize pool of $1 million.
