The latest Nintendo event introduced the much-awaited gaming console, the Switch 2. Along with its official announcement, the company also announced how gamers can get their hands on the new console without having to worry about scalpers.
Nintendo Introduces New Purchase Rules For Switch 2
The more than an hour-long April Direct event provided more details on the release of the Nintendo Switch 2 this year. Apart from the details about the console's specs, its new Joy-Cons, and more, the company also revealed its new purchase rules.
After the event, many users flocked to the Nintendo website to try and get a Switch 2 console and ended up discovering that something has changed. The Japanese gaming company is now requiring users to login to their respective Nintendo accounts to secure a unit when preorders open or when purchasing the Switch 2 directly from them.
Nintendo's New Invitation System For the Switch 2
However, that would not immediately guarantee them a Switch 2 unit, particularly as Nintendo will require users to ask for an invitation. The company will then sort through the interested users who logged in using their accounts.
This new invitation system will now be observed by the company for direct purchases via their websites, and this will ensure the order of purchase by users.
Nintendo is asking for users to be active Nintendo Switch Online subscribers to be eligible for the invitation for this early Switch 2 availability. Users must also be a Switch Online subscriber for at least 12 months so those who are creating new accounts just now will not receive an invitation from Nintendo.
That being said, this invitation system will still come at a first come, first served basis once customers receive their notice from Nintendo. According to the company, it will send the first batch of invitations on May 8.
For this first batch, users will only have 72 hours to complete the purchase before their invitation is forfeited by the company. Nintendo will then ship the console directly to users.
Nintendo Switch 2 Preorders, Release Date Details
Users can now request for an invitation from Nintendo, and the Switch 2's preorders will open up by April 9, according to the gaming company. That being said, Nintendo will only sell one console per Nintendo account to ensure that there will be no hoarders or scalpers to disrupt its sale.
The regular release date of the Switch 2 is scheduled to be on June 5.
Fans will have two options to choose from. There is the standard Nintendo Switch 2 console that costs $449, and there is also the Nintendo Switch 2 + "Mario Kart World" bundle.
