Riot Games Officially Unveils 'Riftbound,' Its New TCG
The tabletop trading card experience is still very much alive, and Riot Games is looking to join the niche industry. "Riftbound" is now the name of the game, and the company has recently confirmed this in its latest introduction trailer featuring Riot's executives and developers explaining what is coming with its TCG experiences.
Its name is derived from the terminology "League of Legends" has previously coined, largely referring to the "Summoner's Rift," which is a place in the fictional land of Valoran where the action takes place. Riot Games is looking to introduce more players to the League's lore and bring them a whole new experience in the tabletop setting with "Riftbound."
Despite already establishing key art and other elements in "League of Legends," the team unveiled new designs for the characters for their trading card visual, featuring new artwork for fans to appreciate. Moreover, the card UI also improved on its details and saw several aspects being polished by Riot Games.
'League of Legends' TCG: Release Details Unveiled
It was revealed that this "League of Legends" trading card game will feature an inaugural set for gamers to enjoy called the "Origins," which already features over 300 different cards to play with. This set includes champions like Jinx, Lee Sin, and Viktor as the lead characters to star in pre-build decks to help players get started.
The company has recently asked for feedback regarding the first set, and they are now working on incorporating what fans had to say about this, according to Engadget. Apart from Origins, "Riftbound" will also feature a box called the "Proving Grounds," which will focus more on helping out players who are not that adept in TCG mechanics and gameplay, featuring characters like Annie, Lux, and Master Yi.
It was revealed that "Riftbound" will first debut in China and is already scheduled for a summer 2025 release. Some regions will see its release within the year, but other countries may have to wait until 2026. Riot Games has yet to provide a specific release schedule as of press time.
