Last week, Respawn launched Season 7 Ascension for Apex Legends, introducing a new Legend, map, and a drivable vehicle. In addition to that, the Season also made some interesting changes to Legends like Loba and Pathfinder, buffing their ultimate and tactical abilities, respectively. Needless to say, Season 7 Ascension is already a hit among fans, with many even claiming that the new Season is the best that Respawn has ever released for its Battle Royale shooter.
The same day that Season 7 Ascension went live, Respawn also brought Apex Legends to everyone's favorite gaming platform, Steam. Within a few days of launching on Steam, Apex Legends reached an incredible milestone with over 100,000 concurrent players enjoying the game. According to SteamDB, Apex Legends witnessed an all-time peak of 116,600 players on Monday, and at the time of writing, there are 63,597 players currently online. This puts Apex Legends just behind popular games like CS: GO, Dota 2, Destiny 2, Among Us, Team Fortress 2, and Rocket League. Currently, another popular Battle Royale, PUBG, is sitting just behind Apex Legends.
Given how popular Apex Legends has been on Origin, we all expected the game to rise to a similar popularity on Steam as well. Moreover, this is good news for EA as well, whose COO and CFO Blake Jorgensen claimed that Apex Legends could become a billion-dollar franchise on its own. Not to forget that Respawn also has plans to bring the much loved Battle Royale game to Nintendo Switch and mobile platforms as well.
The Switch version of Apex Legends was intended to be launched with Season 7, but Respawn delayed it due to technical issues. Respawn said that it wants Apex Legends to feel and run smoothly on the handheld console, and if that means delaying the release for some more time, then so be it. As for the mobile version, Respawn is planning to bring Apex Legends to mobile devices some time in 2022.
Apex Legends is free-to-play on PC, PS4, and Xbox One. The game is also in development for the Nintendo Switch and Mobile.
