Apple has been in talks with the “Hollywood creative community” in hopes of creating original content for a video service, Ron Grover is reporting for The Street. According to Grover’s sources, Apple Senior Vice President of Internet Software and Services Eddy Cue , plus Apple Vice President of iTunes Content Robert Kondrk, are the ones representing Apple in the talks.
While Apple has not yet signed any agreements sources informed Grover that Apple is considering arranging the deals in time to unveil the “exclusive content as part of a cable-like offering” for September. Apple typically releases a new generation of the iPhone around September, and hosts a large sized media event for the announcement.
This is not the first time Apple has been seen having talks with the Hollywood community and other big name content creators.
“We have ongoing conversations,” ESPN President John Skipper recently said in an interview with the Wall Street Journal. “They have been frustrated by their ability to construct something which works for them with programmers. We continue to try to work with them.”
Apple launched the Apple Music streaming service in June 2015, establishing a pricing structure similar to Spotify. It seems like Netflix may be the next streaming service in Apple’s crosshairs.
iDigitalTimes requested a comment from Apple regarding the possibility of a video service from Apple that offers original content, but we have not received a response yet.
