There’s a new Arrow villain in town and his name is Prometheus. Donning an all black Arrow suit similar to Oliver’s, a policeman mistakes him for Green Arrow before Prometheus shoots the officer down at the end of Arrow Season 5 episode 1, ‘Legacy.’ So who is this new guy?

While we got a good look at Prometheus tonight, his identity still remains a mystery. There is a guy named Prometheus in DC Comics, but this isn’t him. Back at San Diego Comic Con in July, Executive Producer Wendy Mericle revealed this big bad has one goal: revenge. Mericle described him as “a true dark mirror to Oliver Queen” and “somebody Oliver unwittingly created in Season 1 when he was a killer in a hood… this guy is going to be collateral damage who lost someone to the hood and has spent the last several years training and plotting for revenge.”

Prometheus will also have to fit into the ‘Legacy’ theme somehow. It’s a safe bet he doesn’t want Oliver to have much of one. Whatever this black archer’s beef is, it’s most certainly personal. Mericle insinuated it’s someone who Oliver rubbed the wrong way during his rougher days as The Hood in Season 1, when he acted just as reckless as he has been since Black Canary’s death.

During an interview with IGN, Stephen Amell described Prometheus as a villain similar to Deathstroke because there is a story to tell that intertwines both of their lives.

“Prometheus is a villain that is a byproduct of Oliver Queen being Green Arrow. That's something that you get to do once you're five years into a show...Because Prometheus is a villain of Oliver's creation, so to speak, I feel like it will bring in that personal element as well,” Amell said.

It could be a while before we find out who is behind the dark mask. Amell added that by episode 9, we should “have a pretty good idea of what’s going on.” Some of the more popular theories say it could be Robert Queen or Tommy Merlyn back from the dead. Sounds crazy, but with Flashpoint rippling across the Arrowverse, anything is possible.
