Supercell, the developers behind multiplayer mobile gaming hits such as Boom Beach & Clash of Clans, announced its new collective card game (CCG) hybrid, Clash Royale, will become available for download globally sometime in March for both iOS and Android.
Supercell announced the worldwide release of Clash Royale via social media, posting a short video teaser on YouTube, Twitter and Facebook. Interestingly enough, in the comments section of a cross-IP Facebook plug post on the Clash of Clans Facebook page, Supercell happened to announce the release of a new Dark Elixir-based troop in a Clash of Clans update this March as well. The new troop will be unlockable at Town Hall 10.
As previously reported, Clash Royale seems to be a combination of Tower Defense gameplay with virtual turn-based CCGs like the widely popular Hearthstone: Heroes of Warcraft, and lane-focused PvP games such as League of Legends, topped off with a healthy inspiration of mana-dependent abilities ala World of Warcraft.
Clash Royale is currently only available for download in Canada, Hong Kong, Australia, Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Iceland, Finland and New Zealand on iOS devices. Supercell soft-launched the game in those countries first to smooth out possible bugs before releasing it to bigger markets such as the United States or China.
Excitement is running high however, with the Clash Royale Facebook page collecting more than 60 thousand likes and a bustling forum on Supercell’s community discussion boards.
Supercell games seem to be as popular with Chinese mobile gamers as they are with North American and European mobile gamers. For the recent Dr. T and Mega Crab event in Boom Beach , Chinese Boom Beach players took eight of the top 10 spots on the global leaderboard, including No. 1-7.
Boom Beach players deployed more than 8 billion Boom Beach troops against the Mega Crab, and 38-percent of all their attacks were successful. Globally, 133 million Mega Crab cores were destroyed over 352 million total individual attacks.
