Borderlands 3 launched on the PC, PS4 and Xbox One in September of last year. Upon launch, the game was exclusive to Epic Games Store for PCs. This move was not appreciated by a large majority of the Borderlands fanbase. The CEO of Gearbox, Randy Pitchford, tried defending the Epic exclusivity by stating, "We also must acknowledge that Borderlands 3 does not exist *today* but rather it will exist in September. The store will be different when the game launches. It will become a boon to their store if they bring sufficient features to make the customer experience great for us. Epic will suffer (again) if, by the time Borderlands 3 launches, the customer experience is not good enough. This is a tremendous forcing function for Epic."
Never matter the rage from the community, the game still managed to become the fastest-selling game for 2K Games. As we know with most Epic Games Store exclusivity, even Borderlands 3 only takes a matter of time to jump ship, and it is now listed on Steam. However, the game will support crossplay support between Epic Games Store and Steam versions at launch. Additionally, Gearbox is also planning to more crossplay features in the future, including the ability to mail weapons.
As of now, just the Super Deluxe edition of Borderlands 3 is listed on Steam. This edition includes all bonus content and the season pass with four DLCs, but a 2K Games representative confirmed that all three versions of the game will be coming to Steam.
The Steam announcement for the game was made alongside the reveal of the second expansion: Guns, Love, and Tentacles: The Marriage of Wainwright and Hammerlock. You are invited to partake in the wedding ceremony of Sir Alistair Hammerlock and Wainwright Jakobs that is, unfortunately (or fortunately) crashed by a band of cultists, and now it's up to you to take care of them.
