There are a ton of armor and pieces of clothing in The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. And while you can try to purchase or seek out every piece of armor in the game, you’ll realistically want to focus on a handful of armor sets and pieces of clothing.

We compiled this list of the most crucial armors in Breath of the Wild , based on practicality and whether it’ll make your gametime easier.

Champion’s Tunic

This blue shirt is plastered on every piece of Breath of the Wild promotional material, and for good reason. You’ll get the Champion’s Tunic pretty early in the main story and once you do, you should be equipping it to Link as often as possible.

The Champion’s Tunic gives Link the ability to see how much health an enemy has, which is crucial in fights especially against bosses and Guardians.

It’s also an easy piece of clothing to upgrade with the Great Fairies.

Elemental Resistance Armor

We’re lumping all the Resistance Armor in Breath of the Wild together in one category as they are all crucial to the main story and surviving some of Hyrule’s most treacherous environments.

The Flamebreaker set is crucial to completing the Goron City missions as wearing the entire set gives Link resistance from the intense heat from magma and will allow you to freely explore Death Mountain without need of a special elixir. It is a bit costly though.

The Snowquell set gives cold resistance so Link can explore snowy areas and complete the Ruto missions without fear of hypothermia. You’ll be able to explore high altitudes with no problem.

The Desert Voe set, when worn together, gives both Heat and Shock resistance. No longer will you have to choose between the two.

Zora Set

During the main story, you’ll find yourself in the Zora Domain and you’ll be gifted a piece of the Zora armor set. This piece increases Link’s swim speed and allows Link to swim up waterfalls, allowing Link to climb large mountainsides.

If you find the other two pieces of the Zora set, your swim speed will continually increase and give Link special abilities while swimming. With so many Shrines and treasures found in large bodies of water, you can do with armor that lets you swim much faster while conserving some stamina.

Climbers Set

One of the most practical armor sets in Breath of the Wild. There’s no question that players will be doing a ton of climbing in this game, and the Climber’s Set makes it a lot easier and faster to climb even the steepest mountains.

The three parts of the Climber’s set are relatively easy to get and they increase Link’s climbing speed. When all three pieces are worn together they increase your stamina while climbing. If you find yourself not having enough stamina to climb hillsides, go and get yourself this armor set.

Ancient Set

The most expensive armor set in Breath of the Wild. The Ancient armor set gives Link added defense against Guardians, the biggest pains in the ass in the entire game. Once you find the Akkala Lab, you’ll be able to create Guardian weapons and the Ancient set of armor.

However, the are very expensive, each costing about 2,000 rupees, and you’ll need different ancient pieces like screws, cores and gears. If you can save up the money and get enough material, this set will be worth it in the end.
