If you've ever wondered what it's like to manage a zoo, then now is that time to find out. Frontier's Planet Zoo is officially live today on PC and is all about running a successful zoo.
You can watch the launch trailer below:
At the heart of this game is animal welfare. Players are tasked with creating the perfect habitats. However, in order to do so, they need to monitor the individual needs of the animals while making sure that there are enough zookeepers, veterinarians, and other staff in order to take care of everyone at the zoo. As not to make it too difficult for players, there is an in-game hub known as Zoopedia where all data on each animal species in the zoo can be found. This includes information on what surroundings the animals prefer, the temperature and foliage, conservation status, and even what other species they can co-exist with.
Planet Zoo offers players these modes:
- Career Mode
- In this mode you join a cost of characters as you journey around the world facing different challenges and making decisions that can impact your zoo.
- There are a total of 12 levels and each has its own unique challenges based on the continent the zoo is located, the biome, weather, temperature, and animal availability.
- Franchise Mode
- In this mode you need to build a series of connected zoos around the world.
- You can breed animals and release them back to the wild or trade with other players.
- Challenge Mode
- Here players start from scratch and play the way they want to. They need to make decisions on how to grow their zoos and try to balance the needs of the zoo with animal welfare needs. This is geared for players who want to play offline.
- Sandbox Mode
- This is for players who simply want to build and create without any of the limitations. That's right, you get unlimited funds and with it unlimited possibilities.
Even with the name, Planet Zoo isn't just about the animals. Players also need to take care of guests in order to have high ratings. You need to have shops and other guest facilities to keep customers coming back. You also need to hide your staff building away from sight. The trick is to find a good balance between giving the guests a good view and giving animals the right amount of privacy.
Finally, there is also something for those who just want to build structures with the Steam Workshop. Here, players can use different building and scenery pieces. These include anything from custom entrances all the way to climbing structures. You can even add terrain to the Habitat blueprints.
There is so much more that Planet Zoo has to offer. What are you waiting for? Go ahead and create the zoo of your dreams right now on PC.
