The craze for Nintendo's next-generation console is at a massive high, but now, the Japanese gaming company is issuing a warning to all potential buyers as there are fake lottery emails about the Switch 2.
Scams are no longer new in the gaming world, especially for highly trending releases encompassing games, devices, consoles, and more, and the Nintendo Switch 2 is not exempted from it.
Nintendo Fans Beware: Switch 2 Fake Lottery Emails
Nintendo's Japanese customer service account on X has shared a word of caution to all fans who are hoping to get a Switch 2 console later this year as there are now bad actors taking advantage of the hype.
According to the company, they have discovered fake lottery emails circulating on the web which masquerade as the My Nintendo Store.
Here, the fake emails contain a "Switch 2 lottery sale" announcement, which tells the account holder that they have secured a slot to purchase the new Nintendo console that will allow them to buy it once it officially releases this June.
The company says that they discovered these "phishing emails" that are sending out the lottery win messages to unknowing customers and are advising against engaging with them.
The scam is also timed perfectly as Nintendo is set to send out legitimate emails to its lottery winners who have earned their slot for a chance to buy the Switch 2. According to GameRant, the current scam is centered on Japan and is targeting Japanese customers who have previously signed up for the lottery and are awaiting the results of the program.
With this, Nintendo said that they will no longer include a link in their official emails for the chosen lucky winners to buy a Switch 2 console from their online store, and users would have to head on over to the My Nintendo Store to purchase it directly from the legitimate website.

There have been many scams circulating in the gaming industry as threat actors are also taking advantage of the massive anticipation and excitement of upcoming releases, and Nintendo is the latest victim of this.
Based on Nintendo's latest statement, the Switch 2 is not safe from scams, and bad actors are taking advantage of its popularity.
While Nintendo did not elaborate on how these emails would scam users, it was reported that the threat actors may be phishing for sensitive information like personal details, payment information, and more.
It is also important to note that even non-customers are receiving fake emails from those masquerading as the My Nintendo Store.
Despite this scam starting in Japan, it is speculated that the later availability of the consoles to other regions would also spark a transition to scamming global users who are awaiting the Switch 2.
