Call of Duty fever is back and in full force, but instead of dominating consoles, this time it takes over the mobile market.
Call of Duty Mobile was first announced back in March, and is being developed by parent company Activision and mobile gaming giant Tencent, who will seek to replicate the first-person shooter’s success on mobile phones.
It looks like they will not have to wait any further for that success to come, as a recent report has stated that the game has already exceeded over 10 million pre-registrations as of today. Pre-registration was officially launched only a couple of weeks ago, back in April, so this is very telling for the hype surrounding this mobile title.
Call of Duty Mobile will be completely free to play, and it brings together “the maps, weapons and characters from across the Call of Duty series in the definitive first-person action experience on mobile.” In terms of continuity, it will primarily be a new, multiplayer-centric, standalone mobile title that “features a collection of fan-favorite maps, competitive game modes, familiar characters and signature weapons from across our beloved franchises, including Call of Duty: Black Ops and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare.” Players going into the game will be able to experience the the iconic Team Deathmatch on Nuketown as well as Frontline game mode on Crash, along with other iconic Call of Duty multiplayer scenarios.
Of course, whenever Tencent is involved, we get to see a huge chunk of the Chinese playerbase come out of the woodwork to support it. Analyst Daniel Ahmad reports that of the 10 million plus registrations for Call of Duty Mobile, more than a million and a quarter are from China.
If you want to pre-register for the game yourself, you can do so by following this nifty guide we put up. It should help you get a chance to experience the game in a beta release before its official release some time in the near future.
