Yesterday was a good day for Call of Duty fans. Players finally saw an in-depth look at the highly-anticipated Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2. Activision Blizzard unveiled seven-minute-long gameplay footage of Dark Water which is one of the levels in the game. You can watch the entire gameplay below.
The footage revealed our favorite Task Force 141 infiltrating an oil rig in search of missiles that are supposedly hidden on board. Later in the footage, we saw the team attacking a cargo ship filled with well-armed enemy combatants.
Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 is the 19th mainline entry in the franchise and a direct sequel to the rebooted Modern Warfare released in 2019. The upcoming game is not to be confused with the older Modern Warfare 2, launched in 2009 on Xbox 360, PS3, and PC.
Blast From the Past
The Dark Water level seems inspired by one of the levels in Modern Warfare 2 (2009) called The Only Easy Day... Was Yesterday, which also saw the infiltration of an oil rig. I wonder, are there any other missions in MW2 similar to older COD games?
Iconic Characters
The game is bringing back fan-favorite characters like Captain Price and Gaz. Some iconic characters like Ghost and Soap have been reimagined and brought to the game. Players will also meet several new characters, and one of them is Mexican Special Forces, Colonel Alejandro Vargas.
About the game
Modern Warfare 2 will release on October 28 on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. Unlike the past couple of COD games, this title will be available for purchase on Steam as well. The standard edition will cost $69.99 on every platform, including last-gen consoles.
The developer also mentioned that future Call of Duty games and Warzone 2.0 will use the same engine as Modern Warfare 2 for consistency's sake.
