Following the reveal of some huge news on Marvel Studios upcoming film, Captain Marvel, Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige spoke candidly about the film and some of the plot points that will likely shape the future of the MCU.
In an interview with IGN after the Marvel Studios Hall H panel, Feige confirmed what some fans speculated about the plot of Captain Marvel after the Skrulls were revealed in concept art that Carol Danvers will see herself in the middle of a war between the Skrulls and Kree.
When asked about the Skrulls involvement and why it was the right time for these classic Marvel villains to appear, Feige had this to say.
“Well we really wanted, we thought it would be fun to, there’s an entire section of our comics that deal with the Kree-Skrull War and we haven’t tapped into that at all. And we thought that would be an amazing, huge portion of mythology to belong to Captain Marvel.”
The Kree-Skrull War in the comics took place in the 1970s and mirrored the Cold War that was happening at the time. However, with Captain Marvel taking place in the 90s it would seem that the War will be changed for film.
Along with the date, the Captain Marvel movie will have Samuel L. Jackson return to play Nick Fury but he will have both of his eyes.
Since Captain Marvel has not been seen in the MCU (although her origin predates Iron Man’s) it will be interesting to see what happens to Danvers after her film. Will she still be on Earth when we see her in the present day? Or will she be somewhere in space? A lot of speculation and uncertainty about the direction of the MCU following Danvers’ introduction but expect more information on this film at next year’s Comic-Con.
Captain Marvel is set to release in 2019.
