There’s a new civ in town in Civilization VI. Well, not new, but we haven’t heard about Civ standby Japan yet. That changed today. Find out more about Japan, led by Hojo Tokimune, in Civilization VI by watching the video below:
The Civilization site describes Japan’s unique unit, the Samurai, as follows:
“Samurai, or known as Bushi class, existed for nearly a thousand years in Japan. Bushido (“the way of the warrior”) was a codified set of rules and way of life adopted by a large number of noble clans throughout Japan. The samurai class wasn’t officially abolished in Japan until 1868 and, to this day, remains one of the most identifiable Japanese cultural touchstones.”
Samurai don’t lose combat strength when they take damage, an ongoing bonus for Japanese samurai units in the Civ series. They unlock by discovering the “Military Tactics” technology.
Japan’s unique building, the Electronics Factory, is described below:
“With the invention of consumer electronics in the late 20 th Century, Japan quickly became home to the largest electronics industry in the entire world. The first modern electronics factory was built by Sony in 1946, and Japanese innovations since have kept the country most profitable in what is easily the most competitive consumer landscape mankind has ever seen.”
The Electronics Factory replaces the regular factory in an industrial zone and provides bonus production. It also provides bonus culture to nearby cities, not just its own cities. Akihabara who?
Japan’s Special Ability is “Meiji Restoration.” This lets the Japanese create compact cities by giving them bonuses for districts built adjacent to one another, making their cities into powerhouses.
Hojo’s leader ability is “Divine Wind,” where land units get an advantage fighting next to the coast and naval units get a combat bonus in shallow water tiles.
The Electronics factory and Meiji Restoration move Japan out of being a purely militaristic civ, giving it a fighting chance in other strategies as well.
Other civs confirmed in Civilization 6 include America, led by Theodore Roosevelt, England, led by Queen Victoria, and Egypt, led by Cleopatra. What civ do you hope we get the details on next? Let us know in the comments section below.
