Clan O’Conall and the Crown of the Stag is arriving at Steam this April 28. This 2D puzzle-platformer is inspired by Celtic-folklore and offers rather interesting gameplay. The game focuses on the three O’Conall siblings as they take on a quest to save their father while also stopping the Mother of Demons from starting a war with the mortal world.
As mentioned, the game gives players a different kind of gameplay - being able to switch between the three characters. In a post, developer HitGrab revealed that they wanted to give players a way to switch seamlessly between each of the characters. This allows players to use the unique abilities and skills of the characters to solve puzzles.
So who are the three characters? Well, they are Clakshot the archer, Kilcannon the warrior, and Haggish the brute. You could pretty much guess what their specialty is. We’ll give you an idea of the specialty and leave it to you to guess which is which. But they respectively represent the bow, the blade, and the fist. The story itself is mainly based on Celtic folklore and takes place in Hibernia. Players get to travel through the different worlds like that of the Mortals, the Demons, and the Fae. Through these worlds, players can meet many beings like the Sluagh, which are the spirits of the restless dead, and Aos Sí, supernatural spirits, such as elves and fairies.
Overall, the game offers:
- Be able to immediately swap characters and weave together each of the unique strengths of the characters.
- Enjoy a stunning and handcrafted 2D visual style.
- Take on handcrafted platforming puzzles across three unique worlds.
- Engage a deep combo system for each character.
- Get to explore a world based on Celtic lore.
The game was launched through Kickstarter and managed to reach its goal with 508 backers. If you're interested, you can wishlist the game on Steam here.
