Clash Of Clans update news has arrived in the form of Supercell’s final Captain’s Log teaser. Now that the last insulting clip has gone live, it’s safe to assume we’ve almost arrived at the release date for the big and different May 2017 patch.
Just like the previous Captain’s Log teasers, this one doesn’t tell us much about the content of the update at all. Here’s Hog Rider’s full internal dialogue in its mostly worthless glory.
Hog Rider: Captain’s Log Day 5: Still no sign of land. I’m starting to think I might not be the best captain. I don’t know how to swim or really even what a boat is. I’m unfit to wear a captain’s hat and a crisp pair of white slacks. What a shame! ‘Cause nothing looks better on Hog Rider than a crisp pair of white slacks. Guess I’ll just go back to smashing things with my big hammer… After all, that’s the only thing I’m even good at.
Pig: Land ho!
Hog Rider: Oh, we’re here! I’m the best captain in the world! Fetch me my crisp white slacks!
The end of the teaser tells fans to “stay tuned to see what lies beyond your shores.”
This Captain’s Log teaser campaign has been super disappointing to the Clash Of Clans faithful, so probably the best news anyone can take from the transcript above is that it’s hopefully the last one you’ll have to read for the foreseeable future. It would appear the May 2017 update is just days away from release, and it could assumingly launch sometime next week. Supercell officially ruled out the week of May 14 for liftoff, but the week of May 21 looks open for business.

As for what we can expect when the patch does go live, much of that story has yet to be told. We know a new game mode called Versus Battle is part of the package, and that there will be an achievement for a task called “unbuild it.” Leaks from trusted insiders suggest the new mode will make use of the Shipwreck that unlocks at level 4, and it will open up access to a new gameplay experience that’s fun for everyone regardless of skill level. The name itself screams PvP, but we’ll have to wait for an official reveal to be sure.
Speaking of reveals, Supercell also revealed earlier this week that, alongside the new mode, there will be a few key balance changes to the existing Clash Of Clans setup. These mostly include new spell levels for Town Hall 10 and 11, as well as a few minor buffs to Balloons and loot collection.
Supercell has been teasing the May update fairly long before the month began and has described it as a revision that’s bigger and more different than anything the team has done before. If social media posts are anything to go by, the last few weeks have been spent polishing the content for the public.
Clash Of Clans is available now on iOS and Android.
