If the success of the NES Classic is anything to go by, retro gaming is more popular than ever before. To tap into this success, it seems Atari is looking to create something of its own to showcase the wide array of games from one of the first home consoles.
Based on the tweet above, Atari has partnered with Gameband to create a way to play Atari classics right on your wrist. No other details about the project have been released yet, but according to an email received by NeoGAF user rSpooky, the launch is right around the corner, on Feb. 1.
As of right now, you can sign up for more information on the official Gameband website, but that’s about all we know so far.
Gameband has also released a product specifically for Minecraft. The band saves your game information, mod launcher and more. Once you get to any computer, simply plug the Gameband into it and you can pick up right where you left off. The band is compatible with Mac, PC and Linux as well, so you don’t have to worry about things not working.
While Gameband didn’t have an official license with Minecraft, the company is working directly with Atari this time, so getting more features and services seems possible. The Minecraft band originally launched at $80, but has since gone down in price, so there isn’t a good estimation for how much the Atari Gameband could cost.
So what do you think? Are you interested in revisiting classic Atari games? Do you think the Gameband would be more useful with a different game or line of games? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below.
