Bowie had turned 69 Jan. 8, only two days before his death. His final album Blackstar was recently released, and the music video for the single on the album, Lazarus, featured Bowie blindfolded on a hospital bed.
One of Bowie’s major accomplishments later in life was creating what is known as the “Bowie Bond,” a financial device that allowed him to raise $55 million from investors in 1997 by leveraging future income from his back catalog.
As news broke of Bowie’s death, artists all over the world took to Twitter to commemorate the icon and the role he played in in their own musical upbringings.
