DC Universe Online celebrated its 10th birthday yesterday, January 11. If you missed it, don’t worry since the celebration is month-long. There are some freebies for everyone, while those with subscriptions also get extra goodies.
This is indeed an excellent milestone and it means more excitement for what’s in store ahead. While not really revealing anything much, DC Universe Online Senior Producer Landon “Panderus” Falls shared in a post that Episode 40 is going to be inspired by Flashpoint. He pointed out that this upcoming episode will be “matched with a more traditional content structure,” and mainly because several of the episodes have been focused on something new and different.
Flashpoint Storyline
For those not familiar, Flashpoint is a 2011 DC Comics storyline set in an alternate universe and where Barry Allen, also known as the Flash, appears to be the only one aware of the differences between the altered and regular timelines.
This is a world where Aquaman and Atlantis are at war with Wonder Woman and the Amazons. It’s a time when Thomas Wayne is the Batman and Superman is apparently not the hero that he is.
This storyline has since been shown in the CW TV show The Flash and the animated film Justice League: The Flashpoint Paradox. It’s also said to be the main plot of the planned live-action The Flash movie starring Ezra Miller.
Because of how those DC characters differ from the ones in the main universe, it’s going to be interesting to see how it plays out in the game.
Plans for 2021
In the same post, Falls went on to say that in the middle of the year, they will be working on how to improve the game not only for new players but even for returning ones. He added that they need “to smooth out some of the rougher edges and better handle the vast amount of content 10 years tends to accumulate.” There are even plans for a special piece of content. To make it all happen, Falls shared that they’ve started to expand the team.
It looks like a lot of exciting things are happening and it’s just the first month of 2021. If you want to know more about the 10th-anniversary celebration, you can read about it here.
