New reports suggest the Destiny 2 campaign might not be as expansive as some fans were hoping for. The information that hit the web this weekend isn’t enough to say for certain that Destiny 2 will be too short to rebuild confidence in the franchise. But now might be a good time to start tempering your expectations for this week’s highly-anticipated debut.
The latest word on the Destiny 2 campaign comes courtesy of a Canadian gamer who received an early copy of the game’s official guide. The player immediately began publishing spoilers on a French gaming forum and it didn’t take long for translations to hit the Destiny sub-reddit. As always, these sorts of leaks should be taken with a grain of salt. But images from the guide don’t leave much room to question the accuracy of the information being spread online. And the leaks suggest the Destiny 2 campaign will be much shorter than some fans probably expected.
According to redditor a_tortoise_IRL, who’s helped translate and aggregate the leaks, Destiny 2 will have 17 story missions when the game hits stores on Wednesday. That’s less than we got from vanilla Destiny, which shipped with a 20 mission campaign, and almost certainly fewer than most fans expected after reports of a 50 hour story. We don’t know how long each mission will take, or how much time cutscenes will add to the game, but the good news is Destiny 2 is will also have around 30 side missions for the community to explore. The leaks also shine light on the game’s armory, which will include roughly 50 exotic items at launch, and other details on the launch build of Destiny 2.
