It’s been a long time since loot caves were relevant in Destiny. There was a time when standing around in large groups, blindly firing at a neverending stream of enemies was the best Bungie’s shared-world shooter had to offer. That usually isn’t the case anymore. But the unpopularity of Destiny 2’s token system, combined with the grind-heavy nature of its Faction Rally events, has inspired fans to discover D2’s very own loot cave.
Destiny 2’s token system was intended to be an evolution of the reputation system from the first game. Players receive faction-specific tokens for completing a variety of tasks and receive rewards from NPCs after they’ve turned in enough of the coins (usually 20). The system is easy to understand, but makes many of Destiny 2’s activities (and their rewards) feel a bit uniform. That uniformity usually leads to disinterest, which prompts Destiny fans to seek out ways to circumvent the tasks they don’t enjoy.
Enter Destiny 2’s first loot cave.
The first big Faction Rally exploit requires a bit more attention from the player than D1’s iconic loot cave. But it also lets Destiny fans blitz through the token acquisition process much faster than they normally could. You’ll still have to wait until the event ends, on Nov. 13, to buy the winning faction’s new weapon. But at least you won’t have to spend as much time in patrol zones while you wait. Here’s how to take advantage of the new Faction Rally exploit:
Head to Winding Cove in the European Dead Zone.
Find the Lost Sector to the right of the spawn area.
Defeat all of the enemies found inside, including the Sector’s boss, and claim the treasure waiting at the end.
Follow the exit path above the chest until you get a notification saying you’re back in the Winding Cove.
Turn around and go back to the chest, which now holds fresh loot. Rinse and repeat until you’ve claimed all the faction tokens you need. Note: You can only spend 400 per event.
It’s worth noting that this seems like the kind of exploit Bungie could fix relatively easily. So if you’re not interested in normal Faction Rally participation, we’d suggest visiting the new loot cave before the studio releases a new Destiny 2 hotfix.
Destiny 2 is currently available on PS4, Xbox One and PC. The game’s first expansion, Curse of Osiris, debuts Dec. 5.
