It’s been a rough few weeks for Destiny 2. But not so rough that we don’t still get excited about new content for Bungie’s shared-world shooter. And the studio has a shocking amount of new material primed for this year’s Dawning celebration.

Bungie is really leaning into the holiday spirit this year. Starting Dec. 19, players will be able to swap gifts with many of the game’s most prominent NPCs, after completing quests to assemble each trinket, every day during the Dawning. The Tower and the Farm will also host snowball fights, giving everyone a chance to hurl a few at friends, clanmates and anyone else who happens to be roaming Destiny 2’s social spaces. Holiday decor will also adorn both locations throughout the game’s first Dawning celebration.

The game’s gathering areas aren’t the only places we’ll see The Dawning. Bungie says the holidays are also bringing Mayhem back to the Crucible. The seasonal matchtype lowers the recharge timers for all player abilities and point values will be “cranked up enough to melt the ice” (whatever that means). There will also be weekly Milestones of Winter that reward players with Dawning engrams. Players can also use Bright Dust to buy specific Dawning items from Eververse. Four different Dawning exotics -- an emote, ghost, ship and Sparrow -- will be sold before the end of the event, along with an assortment of new Legendary equipment.

While it isn’t technically part of the Dawning, Bungie had another gift for the community this week: a new webcomic series that will expand on Destiny’s lore. The first issue will provide more information on Osiris’ past and further context on his relationship with Ikora Rey. Bungie says fans can think of it as an “Osiris and Ikora origin story.” There’s no word on what other plans the studio has for its new webcomic. But we do know it will be free, debuts next week and the studio plans to put out more than one issue.

Destiny 2: Curse of Osiris is available for PS4, Xbox One and PC. The Dawning will run from Dec. 19 through Jan. 5, 2018.
