'Destiny 2' Guide: How to Obtain Barrow-Dyad Exotic For Your 'Taken Path' Exotic Quest

Before that, finish "The Taken Path" exotic quest first.

"Destiny 2's" "Heresy" episode lets you wield powerful weapons to crush the opponents including the newest Barrow-Dyad. If you are a guy who loves carrying submachine guns, this weapon could be the one for you.

It's not easy to get because you have to go through the hurdles of "The Taken Path" questline in order to be able to use it. This secret-heavy mission requires players to explore the solar system, uncover hidden objectives, and complete the "Derealize" Exotic mission.

How to Get the Barrow-Dyad Exotic SMG in Destiny 2

Bungie

To unlock the Barrow-Dyad SMG, Guardians must complete a series of hidden objectives leading to an intense final mission. Here's a breakdown of the process, according to Polygon.

  • Find "The Taken Path" Exotic quest within the Dreadnaught while playing The Nether activity.
  • Complete the lengthy Exotic quest, solving puzzles and tracking down hidden fragments across the solar system.
  • Unlock and complete the "Derealize" mission, which rewards you with the Barrow-Dyad Exotic SMG right before the final boss.
  • Access the "Dyadic Ascension" quest to enhance the weapon's Intrinsic perks.

Now, let's dive into how to start "The Taken Path" and begin your journey toward claiming this incredible SMG.

How to Start 'The Taken Path' Exotic Quest

Unlike many other Exotic quests in "Destiny 2," "The Taken Path" does not appear in your quest log or the Tower vendor list. Instead, you must discover it within the Dreadnaught during The Nether activity.

Finding the Hidden Blight in The Nether

When you load into The Nether, there is a chance that an unusual Blight will appear somewhere in your starting area. While the Blight can appear in different locations, one confirmed spawn point is the Hall of Souls within the Court of Oryx.

To locate it:

  1. Reload into a private instance of The Nether until you spawn in the Hall of Souls area.
  2. Head to the central platform where the area's main boss fight usually takes place.
  3. Walk through the hall with the Thrall statues until you reach the bridge leading to the King's Fall raid entrance.
  4. Look up and to the right—if a large, dark Blight ball is attached to the ceiling strut, you've found it.
  5. If the Blight isn't there, reload the activity until it appears.

Entering the Blighted Cyst and Solving the Puzzle

Once you've found the Blight:

  1. Clear out all enemies in the area to make navigation easier.
  2. Approach the strut where the Blight is attached and pull out your Ghost—this will reveal invisible platforms leading up to the Blight.
  3. Climb or use Strand grapple to reach and jump into the Blight.

You'll now enter a hidden zone called "Blighted Cyst", where a small puzzle awaits.

Solving the 'Something Whispers' Puzzle

Inside the Blighted Cyst, you'll see:

  • A green barrier with a blank rune.
  • A directional plate under the rune.
  • A Taken portal to the left (avoid this for now).

Here's What to Do

  1. Stand on the directional plate under the rune.
  2. After a moment, the rune will display a symbol, and you'll see the message "something whispers to the right" in your UI.
  3. Shoot the rune, then immediately step off the plate toward the right—this will teleport you past the barrier.
  4. If you're playing with a fireteam, each player must do this individually to get through.

Once on the other side, interact with the elevated table in the room to collect the Taken Osseous Fragment, an Exotic redeemable item with no immediate instructions.

What to Do After Getting the Taken Osseous Fragment

With the Taken Osseous Fragment in hand:

  1. Open your Director and travel to Eris Morn's Shaping Slab.
  2. Interact with the slab to receive "The Taken Path" Exotic quest.

The Barrow-Dyad SMG is a must-have for Guardians who love high-powered, Strand-based weaponry. While its questline is filled with hidden objectives, secret puzzles, and a demanding final mission, the reward is well worth the effort.
