Following an earlier announcement, Bungie has finally unveiled the first trailer and details for Destiny 2: Lightfall, one of the final chapters in what Bungie is calling the Light and Darkness Saga of the wider Destiny universe. Lightfall is set to arrive on February 28, 2023, on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Stadia, and PC via Steam. Additionally, an Epic Games Store version of Destiny 2 is now available, with a few bonuses for players who will play via the storefront. Check out the reveal trailer for Destiny 2: Lightfall below.
(Spoilers ahead for The Witch Queen)
The trailer shows a brand-new, neon-laced, and glitzy location set in Neptune called Neomuna. Here, the Darkness brews after the events of The Witch Queen; the Darkness incarnate and envoy, the Witness, is finally in our solar system. They also meet up with Calus, the despotic Cabal emperor who was thwarted during the events of The Witch Queen. Calus is undergoing changes as he becomes an official envoy of the Darkness, and it’s up to the Guardians to stop him and the Witness in their tracks in this technologically advanced secret city of Neomuna.
The Guardians are not alone in this plight; they are joined by the Cloud Striders as they face off against the Shadow Legion in a city now shrouded in Darkness. Of course, as the boundaries between Light and Dark start to obscure, the Guardians are yet again gifted with a set of mysterious powers called the Strand. With its origins set in the Darkness, the Strand allows the Guardians to pluck at the threads of reality through various means. The new trailer focuses on one of the Strand’s newest additions in Destiny 2: Lightfall; it allows Guardians to grapple from building to building, showing off new heights and speeds for the game.
Between now and February 28, 2023, there is still one more season to expect called Season of Plunder. This last season follows the Guardians as they move to thwart the machinations of Eramis, the Fallen Kell who once used the Darkness. The Season of Plunder is now available across all platforms.
