Diablo II: Resurrected won’t be here until September, but new information about its Ladder system has been revealed. Read further to find out everything there is to know.
What Is It?
Almost every online game today employs some form of ranking system. In Diablo II: Resurrected, the Ladder is basically the game's ranked play.
That said, the Ladder system is somewhat similar to Diablo III Seasons wherein rankings reset after a fixed period. This means that you will have to go back to square one when it happens.
If you’ve played the original Diablo II, the reset happens every six months. As per an article, developers have announced that the Ladder will have more frequent restarts in Resurrected, though it is unclear how many resets will happen this year.
What Are the Benefits?
Those who partake in the Ladder have the chance to earn upgraded items and runewords that are not available in non-ladder game modes.
In addition, you can upgrade any unique items of your choice. This is something only possible in Ladder and single-player mode.
You can keep all of the things you’ve gained during the season as well, thus making your characters even deadlier than ever.
The Different Ladders
There will be four tiers once Resurrected launches. These are the Standard, Hardcore, Standard Expansion, and Hardcore Expansion Ladders.
If you choose the Standard and Hardcore Ladders, you will only play the four original acts in the game. In other words, the ranking only takes into account the moment you begin the game until you slay Diablo in Act IV.
In Standard Expansion and Harcore Expansion Ladders, players would have to run through five acts, which takes into account the Lord of Destruction expansion.
Bear in mind that if you pick any Hardcore Ladders, your character’s death will be permanent. If this happens, you’d have to start over if you wish to take part in the Ladder again before it resets.
People are Complaining About the Reset
While the devs have announced the frequent Ladder restarts, we still do not know the exact time frame of each Ladder season, at the time of writing.
Fans over at Reddit theorized that the rankings might reset every three months. If this is the case, it might not give players enough time to get what the Ladder has to offer.
One user said that three months just isn’t enough time to get all of the high-end gears, especially if you are a casual player. The short time frame is likely in reference to Diablo III Seasons, about 18 weeks since Season 21.
