Every day we get closer to Cyberpunk 2077’s estimated April 2020 release date, but it seems it’s not just the fans that are finding it hard to control their excitement. Even the folks over at CD Projekt Red can’t wait to show us the kind of masterpiece of a video game they’re working on, so they’ve presented to the community a little treat: a nearly 15-minute deep dive video of Cyberpunk 2077 that throws players right into the thick of the game.
In the deep dive, players get to witness brand new, never-seen-before gameplay footage that highlights the different ways players equipped with different skill sets can accomplish a specific mission. First, players get to explore the run-down Pacific district, before being treated to some fast-paced combat and intense stealth mechanics. The video compares two character builds, which the narrator refers to as the Strong Solo build and the Netrunner build. When placed in the same situation, it’s apparent that both builds offer unique and distinct gameplay. While the Strong Solo character build gets the job done through brute force and superior combat ability, the Netrunner accomplishes his task through stealth, tactics, and technical superiority.
The video also gives players a clearer picture of what CD Projekt Red meant by there being no fixed class system. Players are free to develop their characters however they want, even develop hybrid classes with unique specializations.
In the deep dive, players are also given a first look at how player choices have direct and meaningful consequences in the game world. The video illustrates what happens when you choose a faction over another, or what happens depending on your approach to Keanu Reeves’ character, Johnny SIlverhand.
CD Projekt Red has kept its fans happy with a constant supply of trailers and gameplay videos, but this deep dive video is the most revealing yet. While prior videos showcased combat mechanics, and certain gameplay elements, the deep dive video illustrates just how complex, intricate, and ultimately, satisfying Cyberpunk 2077 is going to be.
