A new gameplay trailer for Divinity: Original Sin 2, captured using a near-complete version of the game’s engine, has been released by Larian Studios. The footage offers sneak previews of several features from the upcoming RPG, including its improved character creator and expanded combat mechanics. But we’re still two weeks away from experiencing the intrigue and magic from Divinity: Original Sin 2 for ourselves.
The new trailer is surprisingly informative, even if you’ve been following the game’s development over the last year (or longer). We actually got a chance to spend some hands-on time with an early build of the game during PAX South 2017, and came away impressed (to say the least), but there was a surprising amount of content in this week’s Original Sin 2 trailer that we hadn’t seen yet. And we’re not just talking about new destinations either. We knew combat would continue to improve and expand in the Divinity sequel but it looks like battlefield strategists will be able to deliver even more punishment than in the first game, thanks to enhanced spell and environment interactions.
The new Divinity: Original Sin 2 trailer also provides some information on the multiplayer features that will be included at launch. DOS2 will support parties of up to four players, each of whom can actively contribute to that campaign playthrough. It is also the latest cooperative title to support dynamic split screen, a feature that merges and reconfigures the split as needed during a multiplayer session. And, like most modern trailers, there are a few accolades for early builds of Divinity: Original Sin 2 to round out the clip.
For an early look at the launch build of Divinity: Original Sin 2, take a few minutes to watch the trailer that debuted this week (embedded up top). Then head down to the comments and let us know if you’re planning to pick up a copy of Divinity: Original Sin 2 when the game hits Steam next month.
Divinity: Original Sin 2 is in development for PC and debuts Sept. 14.
