Electronic Arts is finally ready to start playtesting of the latest "Skate" game for consoles and fans are now able to sign-up if they want to try it out for themselves.
The development comes after four and a half years since "Skate" was originally revealed as a free-to-play skater simulator. The players who are receiving invitations to get involved with the playtests are those who signed up to the game's early access Insider program.
Skate Playtests Now Open for Consoles
The development team said that it is still inviting new players who are registered as they move forward and are actively recruiting testers for the game. This means that you can still go to the official website to express your interest in joining the playtest.
The developer of the game is Full Circle, which first shared details of the project in 2022 and explained that the game was not a sequel nor a remake, reboot, or prequel.
"Skate" was simply described as an "authentic evolution" of the franchise that was intended to reflect where "skateboarding and gaming is in the real world," according to Eurogamer.
The studio revealed that "Skate" will be available on Playtation, Xbox, PC, and mobile devices when it comes out in early access in 2025. The latest entry in the franchise is set to launch more than a decade after the release of "Skate 3."
The situation comes as many players, even fans of the "Skate" franchise, are finding it difficult to imagine how Electronic Arts will make the latest entry a live-service title. The latest playtest prohibits participants from sharing any footage or image of the game.
Latest Entry in the Franchise
However, there have already been some videos of the playtest that were shared on the game's YouTube channel. These seem to take on the form of exciting "best of" compilations instead of unedited game footage, Dual Shockers said.
The company noted that some players have been given the opportunity to playtest "Skate" and its early versions. They will be able to provide the studio with various feedback based on their experiences throughout the development process.
Many fans are eagerly waiting for a more specific release date for "Skate," which could be announced after "Grand Theft Auto VI" gets its own release window.
This is something that a lot of studios are doing in the industry to avoid launching with arguably the most anticipated game of the year.
Players are now waiting with keen eyes about when the latest entry in the "Skate" franchise could come out in early access. Fans are hoping to once again perform skateboarding tricks that seem to defy physics, according to VG247.
