If you think you are playing with humans right now, then you have not heard about the latest update from Epic Games. Just recently, the studio released an update that introduced bots to Fortnite. In other words, the next time you are in a match, you will also be up against bots.
Fortnite is hands down one of the best battle royale games right now. This is largely due to Epic Games’ commitment to introducing quality of life improvements and bug fixes. Given the passion the studio has towards the game, it totally makes sense for the next season to have a significant improvement.
According to the studio, the major changes will be part of an effort to strongly address the wide range of skill levels across Fortnite players. In Season 10, the studio introduced a much improved matchmaking system that allowed players to be pitted against players of the same level. In the forthcoming season, they will be introduced to artificial intelligence bots.
In an official blog post, Epic Games explained why they decided to introduce these changes to the game.
“We’re introducing improved matchmaking logic to Battle Royale core modes to create fairer matches,” the game’s developers wrote in the post. “What does this mean? You will be more likely to match with players of similar skill, and as you get better, so should your opponents.”
Keep in mind that the update will not be necessarily available to all players. That is because the studio wants to roll it out to all regions gradually. Also, it will monitor how it is received by players so it can easily make adjustments in the future.
Epic Games added that the bots “will behave similarly to normal players.” As such, players will be able to “grow in skill” and the bots will help them do just that. “Bots will work in conjunction with the new matchmaking system, and as your skill improves, you’ll face fewer bots,” the post stated.
The new update received mixed reactions from the community. Some suggest that it will not really favor players who are more skilled. Others even pointed that skill-based matchmaking has never worked.
