Half-Life is making a grand return with Half-Life: Alyx in March, but Valve has much more in store for us to get fans hyped. Currently, almost every Half-Life game is free to play on PC until the Alyx release. It’s a perfect time to get yourself updated about the Half-Life universe.
Games that are free include the original Half-Life, Half-Life 2 and two of its episodic expansion packs (Episode One and Two). Half-Life: Blue Shift and Opposing Force are also available.
The games are free to play only for the next two months. You can start the download from here.
“Half-Life: Alyx is set before the events of Half-Life 2 and the episodes, but the games share characters and story elements," Valve said in a press statement. "The Half-Life: Alyx team believes that the best way to enjoy the new game is to play through the old ones, especially Half-Life 2 and the episodes, so we want to make that as easy as possible.”
It’s a smart promotional move by Valve to make the games free just before the launch of their new title. This will surely get the fans talking and get HL back in the headlines. If you are in the minority of PC gamers and haven’t tried out any Half-Life game before, now’s your chance. Go finish all these games before they go full price again and get yourself all warmed up for Alyx.
The last Half-Life game to release was Half-Life 2: Episode 2, and that was back in 2007. It’s been over a decade since a new game in the series has released. Fans have been asking for Half-Life 3 for quite some time, and while Half-Life: Alyx is a VR game and not exactly the proper sequel that we have all been waiting for, it surely has gotten us all hyped up.
