Do you like your real-time strategy games with a heaping helping of aliens? Then you'll want to play through XCOM 2 and its various expansions and DLC releases. Now, 2K and Firaxis Games have made it easier than ever to do that by releasing the XCOM 2 Collection on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One in addition to the PC, Mac, and Linux versions, which are available right now.
The XCOM 2 Collection, which Firaxis Games has announced will arrive "soon," contains the original XCOM 2 as well as its latest expansion War of the Chosen and four additional DLC packs. This includes Resistance Warrior, Anarchy's Children, Alien Hunters, and Shen's Last Gift, all extremely meaty selections in their own right.
For the uninitiated, XCOM 2 follows the invasion of Earth by an alien race. It's your job to lead a team of guerrilla soldiers to exterminate the aliens and liberate humans from their oppressive rule. It's pretty heavy stuff, especially since the aliens promised important advances and a positive future for all of mankind. That didn't happen, as you might guess.
The DLC included with the collection offers a decent amount of extra gameplay to blaze through, but XCOM 2: War of the Chosen is the largest part of the deal, with a new enemy called the Chosen and new Hero classes to navigate through extra missions and environments. It's just the revitalization the series needed and transforms the game in a significant way. If you completed XCOM 2 and its original set of missions, this is a great reason to come back. For players new to the series, it’s a great reason to start for the very first time.
If you don't want to wait until the eventual console launch of the XCOM 2 Collection, you can go ahead and pick it up on PC right now. Unfortunately, there isn't a concrete release date for the console versions yet. In the meantime, you can spend some time playing the original XCOM remake until the new collection is out. And this may sound funny to die-hard XCOM fans at first, but you’ll find something to love about the very XCOM-esque Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle on Nintendo Switch. Trust me on this.
