Facebook has made it easier to watch content from people around world in real time. The new feature on Facebook’s desktop version of the Live Video map allows people to see where people are streaming from around the world.
The desktop site’s map has blue dots showing the users where there are public streams. Larger, lighter dots symbolize streams with more viewers. By hovering over a dot, users can see where other viewers are watching from. Those concerned about privacy need not worry, as locations of streams and identities of viewers are kept vague.
Facebook announced last month that its live streaming feature -- which was previously limited to celebrities -- will allow users to utilize the streaming platform in Facebook Groups and Events. According to Facebook, Live in Groups will let users broadcast to members of a particular Facebook Group, while Live in Events allows users to share footage like sneak peeks and Q&A’s. One of the upgrades is a new desktop-only Facebook Live Map that allows users to explore content from other users around the world.
“People in more than 60 countries can now share live video, and we’ve been inspired by all the different global broadcasts,” wrote Facebook’s Product Management Director Fidji Simo in a press release. “The Facebook Live Map gives you a window into what’s happening in the world right now.”
