Fallout 4 PS4 mods have worked out pretty well, but there’s no hiding that the experience on Sony’s console is quite different from the inherent freedom offered on PC and Xbox One. While Bethesda is hopeful that those limitations could eventually be removed, studio marketing VP Pete Hines recently shared his very clear stance with his followers on Twitter.
“It isn't up to us,” Hines reiterated. “We tried. It was rejected. I have no info. [I would] really appreciate it if folks would stop asking me.”
This concrete reply comes after a reasonably long spat between Bethesda and Sony about allowing user-created mods on PS4. After months of deliberation, it was decided that PS4 mods would be able to launch. however, they were forcibly restricted to only the official assets provided by Bethesda in its official creation kit. That essentially means all outside content, like Thomas The Tank Engine or John Cena models, is totally rejected on Sony’s platform. This restriction mostly doesn’t apply to PC and Xbox One, of course.
What Hines essentially tells us through this tweet is that no further action will be taken by Bethesda to bring the PS4 disparity up to snuff. The rest of the onus is on Sony to decide how the situation is handled. If enough folks take advantage of mods or the company’s policy starts impacting hardware sales, it could feasibly apply enough pressure for change.
Regardless of what happens, it’s worth pointing out that some content creators have done pretty interesting things on PS4. In fact, we’ve compiled lists of the best all-around mods, settlement mods and survival mods. Each featured item allows players to expand the standard game with a number of fresh elements.
As it stands now, the DLC campaign for Fallout 4 has ostensively ended with PS4 mod support. While users on Steam have unearthed a suspicious unnamed content pack, the official spiel is that Boston’s wasteland is as fleshed out as it will ever be.
Fallout 4 is available now on PS4, Xbox One and PC. Mods are supported across all three platforms.
