This year's PlayStation Experience event was riddled with new announcements, trailers and more. And while there was a fair amount of larger game news to go around, niche titles seemed to be the order of the day. Take this tidbit, for example: Sony Interactive Entertainment and SIE Japan Studio will bring Patapon 2 Remastered to PlayStation 4 in 2018.
The rhythm-based 2D action game for PSP will be remastered in 1080p and dynamic 4K resolution, which should give the colorful environments a chance to really pop. In addition to its unique take on the rhythm gaming genre, the game’s distinct art style has long been one of the most important selling points.
Check out the original Patapon 2 PSP trailer here:
Players will lead the titular Patapons on their quest in an unfamiliar world to cut down a series of monsters who stand in their way. Instead of mashing buttons willy-nilly, players must play along to the beat of various drums to emerge victorious as Patapon troops attack enemies or defend against them.
There are 8 drum rhythms to learn, in addition to the new jump, power up, and party commands, which add new layers of strategy to the intricate percussion you've got to get down if you want to protect your Patapon troops.
This new version of Rhythm With Patapon 2 features eight drum rhythms to learn, including a new jump, power up and party commands. Players will have to master new layers of strategy to the intricate percussion if they want to protect their Patapon troops. The game also lets players create a new Patapon hero that can be customized with any combination of fighting style, special abilities and weapons. Finally, a custom Patapon hero can be topped off with a mask to fulfill any Patapon warrior fantasies.
The colorful Patapon 2 originally made its debut back on the PlayStation Portable in 2008, a followup to the original title that hit the portable console a year earlier. Now, it'll reach an even wider audience as a part of the PlayStation 4 game library.
While Sony has announced we can expect to see the game next year, it has yet to receive a concrete release date. That means you’ve got plenty of time to go back and check out the original game by way of Patapon Remastered , which is also available for PlayStation 4.
