Developer Square Enix has confirmed that its recent Final Fantasy 7 Remake has sold over five million copies worldwide. This milestone was achieved despite the game debuting as a PlayStation 4-exclusive for a year. Final Fantasy VII Remake has been completely reimagined from the ground up and carries the same title as the original PlayStation 1 version of the game, save the "Remake."
Final Fantasy 7 Remake launched on April 10, and it is currently a PlayStation 4 exclusive, but will launch on other platforms in April 2021. Even though Square Enix has announced the arrival of FF7 on other platforms, the developer has yet to provide a solid release date. However, we assume that the announcement also includes the next-gen platforms - PS5 and Xbox Series X.
The developer took to its official Twitter account to celebrate the sales milestone and also offered an impressive 34% discount on the game. Looking at how incredible that sales are, it seems that Final Fantasy 7 has indeed been a remake that fans have been waiting for.
Once Final Fantasy 7 Remake becomes available on other platforms, its no surprise that the sales numbers will rise pretty quickly. This success could also reinforce the already strong partnership between Sony and Square Enix.
The immense success of Final Fantasy 7 Remake should now turn everyone's attention to the Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 2. Even though the sequel is still way off from release, Square Enix has confirmed that the studio is currently working on an unofficially titled Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 2. Given the success of Final Fantasy VII Remake, it could be easily assumed that the next Final Fantasy game will also be a limited-time PlayStation exclusive.
Final Fantasy 7 Remake is currently available on PlayStation 4.
