A new rumor has been circulating claiming the Final Fantasy 7 remake will come to the Nintendo Switch. While this is exciting to think about, this should be treated as a rumor and not a fact. The good news is the rumor suggests there will be a reveal at this year's E3 in June, so it's not too long now to see if this rumor is true or not.
As we have noted before, this wouldn't be the most surprising move for Square Enix to make. The company has already announced plans to focus more on the Switch than Microsoft's upcoming Xbox Scorpio, and plans to release five Nintendo Switch games this year alone. More games have also been teased for the system, but Square Enix hasn't given any confirmation on what these games could be.
Additionally, Final Fantasy 7's Cloud is a playable character in the latest Super Smash Bros. game and is even getting his own amiibo. This clearly shows that there's a growing relationship between Square Enix and Nintendo.
If you want even more clues that Final Fantasy 7 is making its way to the Switch, the game is being developed using Unreal Engine 4. The Switch has been touted as being capable of running UE4 games, so porting development to the Switch shouldn't be that hard for Square Enix.
Unfortunately, there is no release date for the Final Fantasy 7 remake. The last we've heard is that the game is confirmed for "2018 or later." If these rumors of an E3 reveal are true, it's possible Square Enix will announce a release date along with a reveal. We will have to wait for the company's presentation at E3 in June to be sure.
So what do you think? Are you excited about the possibility of Final Fantasy 7 coming to the Switch? Would you get the Switch version over a PS4 or other console version? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below.
