The release dates for Kingdom Hearts 3 and the Final Fantasy 7 remake haven’t been announced yet, but Square Enix has confirmed that they will not be coming in 2017. This information comes from a presentation found on the Square Enix website.
The presentation, titled “U.K. Road Show Material,” details many boring business plans and data for Square Enix. Althought most of the slides in the presentation detail mobile expansion plans and projections on sales, the 12th slide of the presentation finally does give some interesting (and unfortunate) news about Kingdom Hearts 3 and the Final Fantasy 7 remake.
Both games are scheduled for “2018 or later.” That’s rough, but not too surprising. If either were to come out this year, Square Enix would likely have already had more gameplay footage or trailers to share by now.
If plans are for a late 2018 or even 2019 release for both games, there’s a chance there won’t even be any new trailers or gameplay videos at this year’s E3. And if there are any new trailers, don’t expect a release date announcement with it.
The presentation also mentions “Marvel IP License” in the “2018 or later” column. It’s interesting that Square Enix has worded it this way, as we know the studio is working on an Avengers game. This certainly seems like Square Enix is implying more than one Marvel game is in the works, although only the Avengers game has been confirmed so far.
So what do you think? Are you bummed to know there’s no chance of playing Kingdom Hearts 3 or the Final Fantasy 7 remake this year? What do you hope Square Enix has to share at this year’s E3? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below.
