The Flash Season 3 episode 3, ‘Magenta,’ serves as yet another reminder that time-traveling has consequences. Here are the seven most important scenes to remember.
Barry And Iris Are Dating
Barry choses a super fancy restaurant for his first post-Flashpoint date with Iris. Just as things couldn’t get more awkward at the table, a bank robbery happens across the street. After Barry apprehended the thieves, cisco interrupts because he needs them both at Star Labs. Needless to say, their first date didn’t go as planned.
Jesse Is A Speedster
Cisco calls Iris and Barry back to Star Labs because the breach is opening. It’s Harrison Wells and Jesse from Earth-2. Jesse speeds through the breach with a yellow trail of lightning. It turns out the dark matter that hit her from the particle accelerator explosion has finally kicked in. She explains that one day a car ran a red light. It was speeding at her and she stood there, she realized everything around her was frozen. She instinctively ran out of the way and just kept on running. Harry brings Jesse to Central City in hopes The Flash can convince her not to use her powers. Although, he finally comes to terms with his daughter being a speedster when Barry needs Jesse’s help to take down Magenta. Look forward to seeing Jesse’s suit next episode.
Wally Really Wants To Be Kid Flash
The look on Wally’s face when he saw Jesse speed through the breach was so sad. He’s clearly very disappointed the dark matter didn’t give him powers too, but he’s still hopeful. Joe tries to convince him he can change the world without powers, especially if he continues to study engineering. What Joe doesn’t know is that Wally’s engineering skills are what lead him to getting his powers in the Flashpoint timeline. After Wally talks to Jesse about how she got her powers, he tries to jumpstart his own by walking in the middle of a busy street. Jesse saves him.
Flashpoint Doesn’t Change Earth-2
Harrison Wells reveals each Earth has their own timeline. This means that only Arrow and The Flash, and characters from Legends are affected by Flashpoint. This could explain how Captain Cold is alive. In fact, we’ll see him next episode.
Magenta Is From Flashpoint
Frankie is a teenager who lives in an abusive foster home. When her foster father comes home yelling and screaming dinner isn’t ready, Frankie’s eyes turn purple and she turns into Magenta, a metahuman with telekinetic powers. Frankie doesn’t remember anything that happens when she’s Magenta. One day, she started having dreams of another life. Nightly dreams turned into daytime visions, like Edward Clariss. The more often the visions occurred, the more painful they became. Then, she started hearing a voice-- a man named Alchemy, who told her he could give her what she needed to make her as powerful as she was in the flashpoint timeline.
Julian torments Frankie at the police department once he finds out she shares DNA in common with Edward Clariss. She turns into Magenta and starts bending metal all over the police station and escapes. While her foster father is in the hospital, Magenta lifts a huge tanker from the water and holds it above the hospital to finally get revenge on her foster father. The Flash runs in a figure eight to make propeller, creating a shield to keep boat from falling onto the building. Back at Star Labs, Wells realizes Barry can’t do this alone. He sends Jesse to go help Barry. While Jesse holds back the boat, Barry talks to Magenta until she calms down enough to become Frankie again.
Alchemy Plans Revealed
Cisco describes Dr. Alchemy as “a magic man in a cloak who can restore powers people had in Flashpoint.” The final scene of the episode shows Edward Clariss being killed by some invisible metahuman. Hello Mirror Master. Could Wally also be on Alchemy’s radar? If he’s willing to kill himself for powers, we probably shouldn't scratch teaming up with an evil metahuman off the list of possibilities just yet.
