The list of Flashpoint changes are growing by the day. Cisco isn’t full of jokes, Iris and Joe don’t talk, Dig has a baby boy instead of girl, and Caitlin Snow is a metahuman. Last week's episode, ‘Paradox,’ left off with Caitlin’s hands turning icy blue emanating with cold steam. Caitlin becoming Killer Frost has been teased since the end of last season when she met her villainous Earth-2 doppleganger in Zoom’s lair. Now, we’re finally seeing Caitlin’s transformation into a metahuman come to fruition. Hopefully, she’ll lose the ‘Killer’ and just go by Frost.
Caitlin’s conversation with Earth-2 Killer Frost was the first time we found out any details about Caitlin’s upbringing. Interestingly enough, Killer Frost reveals she had a brother, Charlie, who died very young. Her mother couldn’t cope and became “cold.” After she flunked out of medical school, she was forced to move back home. Killer Frost eventually married Ronnie Raymond (aka Deathstorm), also Earth-1 Caitlin Snow’s boyfriend. After Earth-2 Harrison Wells’ particle accelerator explosion, she was gifted with the ability to generate and manipulate ice. Caitlin describes her mother the same way as Killer Frost’s: cold. After the incident, she feared her fate would be the same as Killer Frost and tested herself for the metagene. It came up negative, so clearly this is a result of Flashpoint.
The synopsis for The Flash Season 3 episode 5, “Monster,” not only explores Caitlin’s newfound identity, but also brings Caitlin’s mother to town. Executive Producer Todd Helbing also teased a little bit about what to expect from Caitlin’s mother in Entertainment Weekly’s Spoiler Room column.
“You’ve heard snippets throughout the show so far of how her mom is pretty cold,” Helbing said. “When you meet her, you’ll understand exactly what Caitlin has been talking about and exactly how their dynamic works. You can see how that’s had a long-term effect on Caitlin.”
CAITLIN CALLS ON HER MOTHER FOR HELP WITH HER GROWING META POWERS — Desperate to understand what is happening to her, Caitlin (Danielle Panabaker) visits her mother, Dr. Tannhauser (guest star Susan Walters), a renowned biomedical researcher, in the hopes that her mother can provide some answers about Caitlin’s growing meta-human powers. However, when Dr. Tannhauser treats her daughter like a test subject, Caitlin grows cold and brings up past wounds causing the two to have a major blowout. Meanwhile, after a mysterious new meta-human attacks Central City, Barry (Grant Gustin) tries to convince Julian (Tom Felton) to let him assist on the case.
Even more, Kevin Smith’s episode - -The Flash Season 3 episode 7-- is rumored to be titled Killer Frost. At this point, it remains unclear whether the episode title is referring to Earth-2 Killer Frost (who could still be alive because of Flashpoint) or if it revolves around Caitlin’s new metahuman identity.
