Monday mornings are a difficult time for fans of HBO’s Game of Thrones who missed the previous night’s episode. Facebook, Twitter -- and all social media platforms, overall -- and news outlets become dangerous venues for spoilers that can ruin the user experience for those who failed to stay on top of the show.
For those who have one too many spoilers in their life, there is a free Google Chrome extension that can help keep any mention of “Westeros” or “Targaryen” away from you. Called GameofSpoils, the extension has the ability to identify spoilers on various platforms (like Facebook, Twitter, Google News and more) and block all spoilers related to Game of Thrones .
The extension highlights the spoiler-filled text with a black box and replaces it with text. Refinery29 reports that spoilers are replaced with funny text like “A potential spoiler here was slowly poisoned over a period of many fortnights, because it dared mention the phrase Game of Thrones” and “A potential spoiler here was incinerated by hot dragon breath, because it dared mention the phrase 'Asoiaf'.”
For those who cannot resist temptation, the option will still exist to view the spoiler by clicking on the blacked-out area and watching the spoiler unveil slowly. According to the creator of the open source project, revealing the spoiler will take 3 seconds so those who change their mind will have time to look away.
In the newest update of the GameofSpoils Chrome extension, 28 new actor names have been added, support for Slack has been introduced and users have the option to add custom phrases to block.
